Akku Art Exports is a European managed furniture manufacturer in India, built on family, discipline, craftsmanship and long-term vision.
Founded by two brothers, Mohit and Rohit Joshi, the company began with a story rooted in Rajasthan, India. Their father passed away when they were still very young. Mohit was only three years old and Rohit was just one. Their mother raised the family alone under extremely difficult circumstances.
No financial security.
No wealthy family.
No business background.
Only survival, sacrifice and hope.
In 2011, Mohit and Rohit worked as water delivery boys, carrying heavy water containers through the streets of Rajasthan for long hours every day. The work was exhausting, but helping their family survive was more important than comfort.
During one delivery, they entered a shipping company office. Inside, large posters showed cargo ships travelling across oceans to countries they had never seen before.
“What is shipping?”
The answer opened a completely new world. They learned that Indian products could be exported to customers around the world. When they asked which products India exported most, the answer was simple: spices and furniture.
That small conversation planted the first seed of what would later become Akku Art Exports.
Mohit asked if he could work at the shipping company. He had no formal experience, but he was willing to learn. His first tasks included loading, unloading and helping customers.
Between 2011 and 2013, life was extremely demanding. During the day, he worked in a factory. At night, he worked in a call center where he learned English, customer service, communication and sales.
These skills later became an important foundation for building an international furniture export business.
Around the same period, Rohit moved to Mumbai and worked as an assistant cameraman. That experience gave him independence, creativity and a wider view of life outside Rajasthan.
After years of struggle, learning and hard work, the brothers decided to build something of their own. An early trading company gave them experience, but the real turning point came in 2014 when the business became Akku Art Exports.
The name “Akku” came from Rohit’s childhood nickname. What started as a personal family name slowly grew into an international furniture brand.
Without investors or shortcuts, Mohit and Rohit learned every part of the business themselves: furniture production, export documentation, quality control, packaging, photography, logistics, customer communication and international sales.
Their first meaningful order was only 40 chairs. For many companies, that number would mean very little. For Mohit and Rohit, it meant everything. It was proof that their dream could become reality.
Step by step, small orders became larger projects. International customers started to discover their handcrafted solid wood furniture, industrial furniture, leather furniture, hospitality furniture and custom-made interior solutions.
Today, Akku Art Exports exports handcrafted furniture worldwide, ships around 80 containers per month and provides work and opportunity to more than 400 people.
As a furniture manufacturer in India with European management, Akku Art Exports works with wholesalers, retailers, hospitality groups, interior designers, restaurants, hotels and project buyers across Europe and worldwide.
Rohit oversees factory operations in India, focusing on production, quality and craftsmanship. Mohit lives in Europe with his partner Petra van Giersbergen, working closely with customers, developing new collections and building long-term international relationships.
Combining Indian craftsmanship with European management, the company continues to deliver modern design standards and reliable export experience.
Because the brothers know what it means to have almost nothing, success was never only about money. Giving back became part of the company’s identity.
In 2023, they reopened their late father’s old business, Sunder Medical Store. The shop was brought back to life not only as a business, but also as a tribute to their father and family history.
Profits from the medical store help support animal shelters and community projects. Mohit and Rohit have also helped children in need, believing that no child should grow up without hope or opportunity.
